Background

Dr. Mark Wilkiemeyer grew up in Atlanta and attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. He graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in 1994, and went on to attend Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, where he graduated Alpha Omega Alpha in 1998 as a Doctor of Medicine. His post-graduate training included an internship and subsequent residency at the University of Texas Southwestern in the Department of General Surgery, and a fellowship in laparoscopic surgery at the Duke University Medical Center.

Dr. Wilkiemeyer has a wide body of published work on the subject of laparoscopic surgery, and was awarded "Best Clinical Paper" at the UT Southwestern Department of Surgery's Fifth Annual Research Forum. Other honors include a merit based four-year graduate scholarship, the "Golden Scalpel Award" and "E. Edward McCool, Jr. Award" at Tulane University, and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons Resident Achievement Award.

Dr. Wilkiemeyer is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, a candidate member of the American College of Surgeons, and a diplomate of the American Board of Surgery.

He currently lives in Atlanta with his wife, Claire Dudley Wilkiemeyer, M.D., with whom he has two children.
