Atlanta surgeon Iqbal Garcha M.D.
Background
Dr. Iqbal Garcha attended the University of Georgia in Athens on a Georgia Alumni Academic Scholarship, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in 1986. Dr. Garcha received his Doctor of Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta in 1991, and completed an internship at the Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta in 1992. Dr. Garcha served as general resident surgeon at Georgia Baptist until 1997.
Dr. Garcha has a wide range of professional experience, having held the following positions: research assistant for the department of Cellular and Molecular Biology at the Medical College of Georgia; surgical instructor at Georgia Baptist Medical Center; NASCAR field/ trauma physician at the Atlanta Motor Speedway; surgical instructor at the Advanced Laparoscopic Training Center in Marietta, Georgia; surgical instructor at the First Annual International Meeting on Laparo-Thoracoscopic Surgery in Athens, Greece; moderator at a round-table discussion at the Endo Expo 93 in Orlando, Florida; moderator for a discussion entitled "Video Conferencing Techniques in Medical Training and Education,"at TelConIV in Anaheim, California; surgical proctor at Georgia Baptist Medical Center; and a member of the procurement team for Lifelink of Georgia.
He has a large body of published work, and has given numerous presentations on endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery. He received 2nd place (1991) and 3rd place (1996) for his oral presentations at the American College of Surgeons, Georgia, Chapter meetings. Dr. Garcha is a member of the American Medical Association, the Southeastern Surgical Congress, the Association of Academic Surgery, the Southern Medical Association, and the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons, and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Garcha is an accomplished long-distance runner, having completed four marathons, and earned the distinction of qualifying for the Boston Marathon in 1996. He enjoys fresh and saltwater fly fishing, snow skiing, hiking, bicycling, and competing in triathlons, and is also a certified private pilot.
