Atlanta surgeon J. Dewayne Colquitt, M.D.
Background
Doctor James Dewayne Colquitt has been the Chairman of the Department of Surgery at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia since 2006. He is Chair of the Operating Room Committee and a member of the hospital's Medical Executive Committee.
Doctor Colquitt serves on the Board of Directors of the Georgia Society of General Surgeons. He is a charter member of the Atlanta Surgical Association. He is a member of the Society of American Gastroendoscopic Surgeons.
He is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery and was inducted as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 2004.
Doctor Colquitt received his Doctor of Medicine at the Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia in 1992. He completed his General Surgery Residency at Emory University.
Doctor Colquitt's earlier education includes a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Georgia State University in 1983; pre-medical courses at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga in 1978-79; and an Associate of Science, Nursing degree from Dalton Junior College in 1977. He was a Registered Professional Nurse until 1992 working in critical care nursing at Emory University Hospital and as Head Nurse in the burn center at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Doctor Colquitt's community service includes Surgical Missions to the Phillipines in 2007 and 2005 as part of Georgia Surgical Expeditions, where he volunteers a Medical Director and serves on the Board of Directors.
